Goldfishes remember good old days in Nihonbashi

Nihonbashi (日本橋) was Japanese economic and cultural center in the Edo period, and it is now the financial district of Tokyo. This city has a number of historic buildings from various periods, so it is one of good places for walking around Tokyo. It takes about five minutes from Ginza by Ginza subway line.

The place’s name originate from this bridge, “Nihon-bashi.” Nihon means Japan, and bashi means bridge. This beautiful bridge is now covered with metropolitan highway…What a shame!

One of the oldest department stores, Mitsukoshi (三越), and beyond it is Mitsui Honkan (三井本館). I think that this street looks like New York City.

Behind the Mitsui Honkan, there is Bank of Japan (日本銀行). This building is also elegant.

Now an event themed goldfishes “Art Aquarium” is being held at this building in Nihonbashi.

Oh have you seen the movie? Yes, Nihonbashi was the starting-point of Edo culture. In Edo period, this bridge used to made by wood, but it was destroyed by the blaze. Now you can see the restored old Nihonbashi at the Edo Tokyo Museum (江戸東京博物館) in Ryogoku, and it presented in many of Ukiyoe.
Edo Tokyo Museum is my recommendation!
