Yohco（ヨーコ）

As a cosplayer / photographer living in Shibuya, Tokyo. I do normal things that Otaku does, watching Anime during night, buying dojinshi, and some times illustrating.

I have been in love with Manga and Anime since I was a kid, and when I grew up my dream was to become a Manga illustrator. While in school, during the breaks, I used to draw illustrations of Sailor Moon, and secretly read Shounen Jump so the teachers would not find out.

But as I grew up people around started to lose interest in Manga and Anime, and suddenly the world started calling people the fancied Manga and Anime for “Otaku”. I became abnormal in the eyes of others, and this made me start avoiding Manga and Anime as well. At home, however, I was still secretly watching Evangelion and The Prince of Tennis.

Then I became an adult and started working. Then I understood that people creating Manga and Anime are working as well. Why should I feel ashamed for liking work of others, and why shouldn’t I be able to spend my money as I want.

Along with this I found out that there are many people like me around the world that fancy Anime and Manga. I also found out that fans of Anime and Manga outside of Japan works hard to learn Japanese in order to read and listen to Anime and Manga in Japanese.

So I decided that I want to help spreading Japanese Otaku culture to everyone that shares my interest of Anime and Manga. There is not much information in English when it comes to Otaku information for girls, and I understand that it can be sometimes difficult to find right information if you are not fluent in Japanese. Therefore my articles will be written in English because I want as many people as possible to find out about this culture!

At Kawaii Otaku, you will not only find information about Otaku culture, but also about Japanese culture, girl fashion, and the latest trends. Japan is a great country with a special culture, and my goal is to, through Anime and Manga, spread information about Japan.

Kawaii Otaku is for all the Kawaii Otaku girl’s around the world.

東京・渋谷で写真家 / コスプレイヤーをしています。深夜アニメを見て、同人誌を買って、たまにイラストを描いたり、コスプレをして写真を撮る、日本のどこにでもいるオタクの1人です。

小さい頃からマンガやアニメが大好きで、大人になったら漫画家になりたいと思っていました。学校の休み時間には、セーラームーンやるろうに剣心の絵を描いて友達と見せ合いっこしたり、先生に見つからないように、こっそり少年ジャンプのマンガを貸し借りしたりしていました。

でも、大人になるにつれて、マンガやアニメの話をする友達が少しずついなくなっていきました。いつの間にか私のまわりでは、アニメやマンガが好きな人は普通の人ではなく「オタク」と呼ばれる恥ずかしい存在になっていました。やがて、友達から馬鹿にされたり笑われたりするのが怖くて、私はマンガやアニメを避けるようになりました。でも、やっぱり好きな気持ちは止められなくて、家ではこっそりエヴァンゲリオンやテニスの王子様のアニメを見ていました。ずっと誰にも言えずに。

でも、本当の大人になり、会社に入って自分の仕事に自信や責任を持つようになって、あるときふと思ったのです。アニメやマンガを作っている人たちは、見ている人たちに楽しんでもらうために一所懸命仕事をしている。それは他の人と何ら変わらないのに、その人たちが生み出したものを好きなことがどうして恥ずかしいことなのだろう？自分で稼いだお金を自分の好きなことに使って楽しむことの何が悪いのだろう？人から笑われる筋合いなんて、どこにもないんだ、と。

それと同時に、私と同じようにアニメやマンガが大好きな女の子が世界中にたくさんいることを、インターネットを通じて知るようになりました。好きなキャラクターのセリフを理解したり、見たいアニメや読みたいマンガの情報を知るために、多くの人が難しい日本語を勉強しているということも。

だから、私はオタクであることを隠さずに、堂々と日本のオタクの1人としてブログを始めることにしました。世界の１人でも多くの人が読めるように記事は基本的にすべて英語で書いています。

ここでは、オタクなことだけでなく、私の何気ない毎日の日常やファッション、日本の文化、最新のトレンドなども紹介しています。日本は素晴らしい文化を持っている素敵な国です。マンガやアニメを通じて日本に興味を持ってくれた人たちのお役に立てたら幸いです。

　毎回１人のゲストが日本のお気に入りの街を歩きながら紹介する番組。
　サンシャイン展望台や乙女ロードのお店巡りなど、オタク女子的池袋の楽しみ方を紹介しました。
　「フランス人に覚えてほしい日本語」コーナーでは「青春」を取り上げました。

■ Nolife 101%「シドニアの騎士制作発表会レポート」（フランス）
　テレビアニメ「シドニアの騎士」の制作発表会のレポーターを担当しました。

■ Nolife 101%「K MISSING KINGS 特集」（フランス）
　劇場版「K MISSING KINGS」特集のメインパーソナリティを担当しました。
　番組ゲストは声優の津田健次郎さん、堀江由衣さん、コスプレイヤーのKANAME☆さん。

■ Star World「JAPAN MODE」（FOX系列アジア全域）
　海外女性向けに日本のトレンドを紹介する番組。Danny Chooさん、道端ジェシカさんらが出演。
　このオープニングに出演しているのが私です。
